TWO-WAY SATELLITE TEXTING
DeLorme has brought to market
the first satellite two-way text
messaging device and emergency
communicator, and it fits in the
palm of your hand. The DeLorme
InReach uses Iridium’s tiny 9602
short-burst transceiver module,
which, of course, uses Iridium’s
global satellite network.
By now many of you own,
or have heard of the SPOT
emergency communicator,
considered revolutionary when it
was unveiled a couple of years ago.
The InReach takes the concept a
step further by allowing the user to
receive as well as send messages.
Like SPOT, InReach can send a
pre-loaded message and SOS with
geographic coordinates provided
by the onboard GPS, and the user
can designate delivery by email,
mobile phone, or via Facebook
and Twitter.
