CONTRIBUTORS
SCOTT AND MARY FLANDERS
have been full-time liveaboards for
more than nine years, and recently
completed a circumnavigation
aboard their Nordhavn 46. At last
check, Egret was docked in Las
Palmas de Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. Scott
and Mary plan to spend time touring inland Gran
Canaria and then haul Egret. Next, they head to
Gibraltar and on to the Mediterranean.
GEORGE SASS SR. ran his own
advertising agency for 25 years,
with offices in New York,
Annapolis, and eventually
expanding into Europe. His
company became a leading
marketing agency in the marine industry, working for
such brands as Grand Banks, Nordhavn, Pearson, Alden,
Awlgrip, B&G, Simrad, Raymarine, Avon, and Zodiac.
In 2002 Sass and his family took a one-year sabbatical
aboard their custom 43-foot trawler, Sawdust, to travel
the Great Loop and explore the Bahamas. Shortly after
his return to “civilization” he retired from his ad agency
to begin a new career as a freelance marine writer and
photographer. He continues to work as a marketing and
creative consultant. Sass and his wife, an art teacher and
watercolorist, continue to cruise extensively in search of
new sights they can share through their respective art
forms.
CHARLES (CHUCK) SHIPLEY is
an avid amateur photographer
and former professor of computer
science. Upon his retirement in
July 2005, Chuck and his wife
Barbara sold everything and
moved aboard their 2001 Krogen 48 North Sea, Tusen
Takk II ( Thousand Thanks in Norwegian). They have
been cruising the Caribbean since January 2007. Their
travel blog can be found at www.tusentakk2.com.
