PASSAGEMAKER EVENTS UPDATE
fter a winter that gave
us our fair share of snow and ice,
we’re excited that spring is on its
way—because that means warmer
temperatures and another great
cruising season are just around the
corner, too.
Trawler Fest Ft. Lauderdale at the
Bahia Mar Beach Resort & Yachting
Center was a nice escape to warmer
A
weather, and, with 2,200 attendees
and 90 in-water and land exhibitors,
it was a huge success. Trawler Fest
University preceded the show, and
we extend our gratitude to the
following sponsors for opening their
boats to our University students:
Kadey-Krogen Yachts, for the Krogen
48 AE; Beneteau, for the Beneteau
Swift Trawler 52; and Outer Reef

The new Krogen 48 AE
Serenity took home a nice prize:
the PassageMaker People’s Choice
Award. The 48, which debuted
at Trawler Fest, features a more
ergonomic design than previous
models. Highlights include a fully
covered aft deck leading to the
saloon, which is equipped with
a fully expandable table that
raises and lowers; a larger galley,
complete with a four-burner Viking
range and nearly floor-to-ceiling
pantry; and molded steps with a
handrail leading to the flybridge.
Tom and Bunnie Eccleston of
Huntington, New York, will
take delivery of Serenity upon
commissioning.
The Ocean Navigator Longest
Distance Traveled Award went
to a couple from Redwood City,
California, who had traveled an
impressive 3,011 miles to attend
Trawler Fest Ft. Lauderdale. The
new theme for 2011’s evening
activities, Trawler Fest Treasure
Island, was warmly received. On
Friday night, attendees enjoyed
competing in a scavenger-hunt-type
game called “Quest,” searching for
things like PMM issues, business
cards, and reading glasses to earn
their table points. Roaring laughter
was heard throughout the hotel.
TrawlerPort: Seattle also was
extremely successful. PassageMaker
flags flew high at the Seattle Boat
Show, and we enjoyed meeting up
with many of our readers.
