LETTERS TO THE
I suspect that whoever was guiding
you intended to convey that the riser
should be in the dry section of the
exhaust system, before the water is
injected. Your boat also may require a
wet riser to prevent wave action from
forcing water into the exhaust. Note
that galvanized pipe should not be
used for exhaust systems, dry or wet,
per ABYC guidelines. Unless your
exhaust system is specifically designed
to exit below the waterline, this aspect
of your installation likely will require
some reengineering. (Most systems
aren’t designed this way, and those
that are include a relief port to reduce
back pressure.) Don’t take any
chances; follow your engine
manufacturer’s exhaust system
requirements, and make sure the
materials used meet ABYC
guidelines.—Steve D’Antonio
MORE ‘MYSTERY BOAT’
SLEUTHING
Our obliging readers are still writing
in about the “mystery boat” that
we asked for help identifying in our
October issue (shown above). Chris
Bergey of South Freeport, Maine, sent
a photo of a Ronald Rich design from
Southwest Harbor, Maine, that looks
remarkably like the boat in question.
Several knowledgeable readers
suggested the mystery boat is a Jarvis
Newman 30 or 32. Other guesses
included a Blue Seas 31, a Bruno
Stillman 42, and an Egg Harbor.
Thanks, everyone, for your input.
