The Powersmart Intelligent Pigtail
Adapter, which allows you to
connect a dockside receptacle to
a boat-side inlet with a different
power configuration, has an LED
that indicates when there’s power at
the receptacle. With the Powersmart
adapter, you know if power is present
the moment you plug in at the
dock—there’s no need to test the
outlet with an ammeter.
Tested to Underwriters Laboratories
standards, the unit’s plug and
connector have side grips for easy,
user-friendly connections. The
adapters are ABYC and USCG
compliant and come in a variety
of power configurations, including
15-to- 30 amp, 30-to- 50 amp, and
50-to- 30 amp conversion. The cables
are rated up to 600 volts.
The units are available in standard
yellow or “titanium” and provide a
universal fit with all other brands of
shorepower plugs and connectors.

CLEAR VIEW LPG TANKS
Having lugged my fair share of
LPG tanks to and from customers’
boats over the years, I can say it’s a
real bummer to have to move them
when they’re full. A “ 20 lb.” steel LPG
tank, the kind typically used aboard
cruising vessels for galley ranges and
barbecues, tips the scales at about
40 lb. when full. Nearly half of that
weight comes from the tank itself.
