LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
have to be temporarily installed to
complete the alignment assessment.
New motor mounts often do have
a meaningful effect on vibration,
especially the more modern designs.
Naturally, you should expect to pay
more for mounts that offer enhanced
absorption of vibration and thrust,
as opposed to economy mounts that
simply support the engine.
For the ultimate in drivetrain
vibration and noise mitigation, you
might consider a thrust bearing
arrangement such as those made
by Seatorque ( www.seatorque.com)
or Aquadrive ( www.aquadrive.net).
These systems offer a feature that
stand-alone flexible couplings lack:
the ability to absorb thrust, which
in turn enables the motor mounts
to be much softer and thus more
effectively absorb vibration.

POTABLE WATER: THE SEQUEL
The article “Potable Water
Systems: Part II” (PMM July/Aug.
’ 10) is outdated. No mention was
made of tankless electric water
heaters nor of UV sterilization.
Tankless electric water heaters, which
provide unlimited hot water on
demand, are the way to go. And with
UV sterilization, you never have to
worry about what you are drinking.

There’s always more to add to any
article. Indeed, UV sterilization is an
outstanding approach for mitigating
biological life forms in stored water.
However, UV sterilization will do
nothing to remove sediment, metals,
or chemical contaminants; only fine,
active filtration is capable of doing
that. Using both methods would offer
outstanding water purification.
