CHRIS CASWELL has owned
more boats than he wants his
wife or his banker to know about.
An award-winning journalist for
decades, his book The Greatest
Sailing Stories Ever Told has set
new sales records. Chris has penned six other books on
boating, including Trailerable Sailboats and The Sailing
Fanatic: Timeless Reflections on Water, Wind, and Wave.
He can be seen on television nationwide as host of the
Marine Voyager series on the Speed Channel and has
appeared on Oprah as a guest expert. When not cruising
with his wife, Rhea, in Scotland, Thailand, or the islands
of the Caribbean, Chris parks his seabag in West Palm
Beach, Florida.
Turn to page 54 to join Chris for a tour of the
delightfully spacious Ocean Alexander 60 Trawler.
SCOTT AND MARY FLANDERS
have been cruising the globe
aboard Egret, their 2001
Nordhavn 46 trawler, since
September 2006. They are
currently wintering in Fremantle,
Western Australia, and are enjoying inland touring.
Next, they will cross the Indian Ocean via the islands
of Mauritius and Réunion, east of Madagascar, and then
they’ll cruise on to South Africa. They plan to return
to Florida in March 2011; afterward, they will head out
to sea once again.
In this issue, Mary and Scott take us on a remarkable
austral-winter voyage along the coast of New Zealand’s
South and Stewart Islands.

The new R-25SC cockpit (aft deck) is 25% larger than our original R- 25 giving it nearly 50 Sq. ft. of aft deck space.
The larger cockpit lends itself to more above and below
deck storage and makes for easy access to the standard
4BY2 150 HP Yanmar diesel. The engine is located entirely
outside of the cabin making for smooth, quiet cruising.
Yacht sized features like standard bow and stern thrusters
provide for excellent maneuverability around the dock
and the 8’ 6” beam allows the boat to be easily trailered.
