WHY LARRY ANDERSON WANTS NMEA 2000
TO BECOME THE BACKBONE OF MARINE ELECTRONICS
Courtesy of Maretron
arry Anderson was the standards chairman of
the National Marine Electronics Association from 1999
to 2004. During that time, he oversaw development of
the NMEA 2000 open standard from its inception to its
completion in 2001.
STORY BY PETER SWANSON
Marine Company–Europe, the predecessor of
Raymarine. He is now vice president for sales and
marketing at Maretron, an electronics hardware
manufacturer. Anderson grew up in Port Clyde, a fishing
village in Maine, and his accent never left. When he
refers to “single talker, multi-listener,” as he does in the
following Q&A, what you should hear is “single talkah,
multi-listenah.”
You might say Larry Anderson of Maretron has a lot of “backbone,” that being the foundation of an NMEA 2000-based system.
