CHRIS CASWELL has owned
more boats than he wants his
wife or his banker to know about.
An award-winning journalist for
decades, his book The Greatest
Sailing Stories Ever Told has set
new sales records. Chris has penned six other books
on boating, including Chartering a Boat, Trailerable
Sailboats, and The Sailing Fanatic: Timeless Reflections on
Water, Wind, and Wave. He can be seen on television
nationwide as host of the Marine Voyager series on the
Speed Channel and has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey
Show as a guest expert. When not cruising Thailand,
the islands of the Caribbean, or the lochs of Scotland
with his wife, Rhea, Chris parks his seabag in West Palm
Beach, Florida.

GENE AND KATIE HAMILTON
have been cruising for 40 years, first
on sailboats and currently on their
36-foot Grand Banks trawler, High
Life. They’ve cruised the Great
Lakes and other inland lakes and
rivers, the East Coast, and the Bahamas, and in 2007 they
completed a Great Loop cruise from their home port of
St. Michaels, Maryland, on Chesapeake Bay. Award-winning boating writers, the Hamiltons are the authors of
Practical Boating Skills and Coastal Cruising Under Power
and are the creators of www.gocoastalcruising.com.
The couple spent the summer of 2009 enjoying the
beauty of Lake Champlain, visiting such charming
destinations as Vergennes, Burton Island, and Burlington,
Vermont. En route, they found the New Jersey ICW to
hold many pleasant cruising surprises. In October, the
Hamiltons joined us in Solomons, Maryland, as speakers
at Trawler Fest. High Life is all buttoned up for the
winter, but Katie and Gene are eager to see what the
2010 cruising season holds in store.
On page 54, the Hamiltons share tips and tools that
will help you get the most out of your Great Loop cruise.
CORRECTION
The article about cruising Cuba (“An Even Greater Loop,”
PMM Jan./Feb. ’ 10) incorrectly indicated that TowBoatU.S.
service is available in the Jumentos region of the Bahamas. The
article should have stated: “There is no TowBoatU.S. service;
there are no stores to sell you spare parts.” Please accept our
sincere apologies for this error.
