NEWS & NOTES
“When you step on board, it’s
astonishing to see all these features
on a vessel of this size,” says David
Hensel, GB’s director of marketing.
“There’s no compromise whatsoever
in the level of amenities and luxury
and craftsmanship between the 53
RP and her larger predecessors.”
Developed with the same key
principles of seaworthiness, comfort,
performance, and sophistication that
typify other Aleutian models, the 53
RP, including hull and superstructure,
was designed by the in-house team
at Grand Banks Yachts. Extensive
tank testing at the renowned Marine
Hydrodynamics Laboratory at the
University of Michigan validated
the yacht’s design and performance
specifications.
According to the builder, the
53 Aleutian RP is available with
standard twin 593hp diesel engines
and options up to 705hp that will
generate top speeds estimated at over
22 knots. Alternatively, owners
can cruise at displacement speeds
and achieve better fuel economy.

optimize the green-gas benefits of
R410 while producing optimal
performance in terms of [size],
capacity, reliability, performance,
and user benefits,” said Frank
Marciano, company president.
The smaller units are easier to
install, an important time saver for
boatbuilders. They also use fewer amp
hours of electricity, which benefits the
user. Improved mounting systems
and insulation mean that vibration
“is virtually eliminated and operating
noise is reduced to a minimum,”
according to the company.

When Dometic Marine switched
to “environmentally friendly” R410
refrigerant for its air conditioning
systems, it went several steps further
and made the units smaller, lighter,
quieter, and more efficient.
Dometic says its Emerald Series
air conditioners are the first marine
systems designed to run on R410,
a refrigerant that meets the “green”
requirements of the Environmental
Protection Agency and similar
international rules for discontinuing
the use of ozone-depleting R22
refrigerant.
