boats’ cabin windows, there were several moments of
regret that Dauntless was not with us.
Perhaps next time the weather will cooperate and
our stay on Monhegan Island will be longer. How
lovely it would be to be trapped in the harbor here for
days, waiting for the fog to lift. As it was, we left on
the morning ferry back to Port Clyde, me with great
anticipation of washing and blow-drying my hair, and Jim
anxious to download his photography. We both cringed
at the thought of turning on our cell phones again.
Spending a few nights totally disconnected from the
world—without electricity and all that it brings to the
table—serves as a good reminder of a long-gone, simpler
life that had much more to do with communing and
connecting than with pushing buttons and staring
at screens.
We hope Monhegan never changes.
