Parties
STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY LORI ROSS
Potluck parties are popular, low cost and low
maintenance, and enjoyable anytime. While
cruising, they are a terrific way to spend time at a
friendly rendezvous or to get to know other boaters at
a club or owners’ association gathering. Most potlucks
involve bringing a dish to share for a meal, but I have
also enjoyed impromptu “happy hour appetizer
potlucks” and “cookout on the grill potlucks.”
My favorite happy hour potluck took place on the
Pokie Run, a PMM cruise to the Abacos that included
40 people on a couple dozen boats. One evening
everyone gathered on the dock, where we tied up
and shared our favorite appetizers and mixed drinks.
We sipped mimosas, rum punches, and “painkillers”
and ate fabulous cheeses, dips, salsas, and snacks. The
most wonderful dish, in my view, was a fresh conch
Whole-wheat berry salad is a scrumptious side dish that’s perfect for bringing to a potluck party. No matter the theme or the
season, potlucks are all about enjoying great company while savoring good food.
